R. Sean Morrison, MD is the Hermann Merkin Professor of Palliative Care and Vice-Chair for Research in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY.

Dr. Morrison received his B.Sc. from Brown University and his M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center and fellowship training in geriatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has been on the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine since 1995 where he established the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit and served as its director from 1995-1997. He has received numerous awards for his research in geriatrics and palliative care and has been named a Brookdale National Fellow, an Open Society Institute Project on Death in America Faculty Scholar, and an American Federation for Aging Research Paul Beeson Faculty Scholar. His research focuses on decision making at the end of life, pain and symptom management in high risk and medically underserved populations, and quality measures in palliative care.
